Recorded in 1313 in a notarial deed, the Registre d’Anniviers, Humagne Blanche is one of the oldest grape varieties in the Valais. Popular tradition attributes its origins to the Romans, and its particularly high iron content has earned it the nickname of “the wine of childbirth”. However, both of these claims have been disproved by modern research. A variety found only in the Valais, Humagne Blanche, which is in no way related to its namesake Humagne Rouge, almost disappeared during the 20th century due to its low productivity and susceptibility to vine pests.
