Château Sociando Mallet Haut Médoc 2017 75 cl

This vintage is one of the last signed by Jean Gautreau. A very fine expression of the appellation, it is an authentic wine for laying down, while already showing itself to be highly enjoyable. Both in terms of its bouquet, which harmoniously blends ripe fruit and wood, and its full, long palate, with dense, well-coated tannins composing with fruity aromas of the best effect.

The Château Sociando-Mallet is an exceptional estate in many ways. It is located in Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne in the Haut-Médoc appellation. It was bought by the Basque family Sociondo in 1633 and became “Sociando” following a spelling error. In 1831, the estate became Château Sociando-Mallet when the owner married Achille Mallet. It has been owned by Jean Gautreau since 1969. The estate boasts one of the finest non-classified wines in the Médoc! The Château Sociando-Mallet vintage exhales complex aromas, combining red berries and a controlled woodiness. Powerful and fresh, even after 20 years in the cellar.
The estate covers 85 hectares with vines that are on average 30 years old. They are planted on a terroir of Guntz gravel and a clay-limestone subsoil. The two main grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon (48%) and Merlot (47%), with a further 5% Cabernet Franc. The wine is aged for 12 months in barrels.
Château Sociando-Mallet produces a second wine; La demoiselle de Sociando-Mallet, which is a wine made from the estate’s youngest vines.
